Puttur, July 14, 2015: A retired car driver of the Forest Department has been accused of encroaching a Paramboku land of a road and raising an unauthorised construction thereby obstructing free movement of traffic close by the Darandakukku Junction of the Puttur-Uppinangady State Highway in Bannur Gram Panchayat limits. The encroachment of the road is also learnt to have led to over ten accidents in the area in the past two to three month period.
It is said that though a local resident named Hilda had earlier lodged a complaint against the former forest Department driver named Devappa Gowda with the Puttur PWD Assistant Engineer Ravi Kumar and Mangaluru PWD Executive Engineer Dharmaraj, except for serving a notice the two officials failed to take any other step.
Meanwhile, locals allege that the accused Devappa moved round claiming that he was responsible for the posting of the two PWD officials and that he was also very close to the Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Sources meanwhile said though Devappa Gowda had even moved the state High Court along with some ‘fake documents’ to justify his act of constructing a building his petition was rejected and the PWD asked to initiate necessary action immediately.
Meanwhile, though Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, consequent upon the court orders had directed the officials concerned to initiate necessary action against the unauthorised construction, so far there has been no effort in this direction, say locals.
