Puttur : 3 year jail for man responsible for wife’s death

Puttur, Dec 17, 2015 : The Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court of Puttur has sentenced a man named Fernard Monteiro of Kapinabagilu  who has been proved guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, to imprisonment for three years and 15 days. The judgement was out on December 16.  The Court had earlier on December 9 convicted Fernard in the case of death of his wife Rosalina.

As Fernard has been in judicial custody  since July 2013, he will have to undergo another seven months imprisonment to complete his punishment.

Fernard who had asked his wife Rosalina to cook pork meat on June 6, 2013 grew angry when his  wife  said she would prepare the dish after heating water for bath.  He then reportedly  hurled a sickle on her injuring her on the head.

Though Rosalina managed to grab the sickle and throw it outside, Fernard then poured kerosene on her and tried to immolate her. Rosalina who had sustained serious injuries, had breathed her last on June 11. Fernard who was arrested the same day was charge sheeted by the police.
