Prof. Samaga appointed as Karnataka Yakshagana Academy president

Mangalore , Sep 7, 2011: Malpe Laxminarayana Samaga, the well-known English professor and former principal of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College, has been appointed as the president of Karnataka Yakshagana Academy for 3 years by the chief minister of Karnataka.

laxminarayan Prof. Samaga has been a Yakshagana artiste for the past 40 years, playing both male and female roles in Tenkutittu as well as Badgatittu styles.

Well-versed in Talamaddale and Aata formats, he participates in dance dramas, plays, TV, and Akashavani Yakshaganas. He has performed not only all over India, but also in foreign countries such as Singapore, Italy, and Bahrain. He

also bears the credit of organizing a number of Yakshagana workshops and festivals. He is the director and chief actor of the English Yakshagana, which is performed by Yakshanandana in Panambur.

Prof. Samaga has also been the member of Yakshagana Academy and Karnataka Janapada in the past. He is frequently invited to be the resource person at Yakshagana seminars.
