Mangaluru, June 19, 2017: Reports pouring in say that our President of India Pranab Mukherjee’s holy tour began by offering prayers to Lord Krishna at Sri Krishna Mutt and seeking the blessings of Pejawar Mutt seer Sri Vishweshatheertha Swami.
The president was given a traditional welcome with ’Poorna Kumbha Swaghatha’ at the entrance of Kollur Mookambika Temple. He offered prayers to Goddess Mookambika, which was followed by ’sarvalankara pooje.’ Udupi representative, Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports was on hand.
The President stated : ‘People of Udupi, DK are enterprising’. The people of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts were known for their enterprising spirit. He spoke after inaugurating the new building of the Udupi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI), here.
Minister Madhwaraj said that the enterprising spirit of the people could be gauged by the fact that these two districts were known as the cradle of banking for producing 5 nationalised banks. These districts were also hubs of education and were always in the top bracket in SSLC and Second Year PUC results. In fact, Udupi district had topped the State in having the highest number of passes in SSLC and II PU, he said.
He was offered a welcome drink ’virgin mojito,’ which was followed by ’vegetable tortilla soup,’ and salads comprising peanuts, almonds, sprouts and walnuts, ’Panzanella salad’ and ’citrus green veg salad.’ The main course comprised ’falafel with hummus,’ ’chargrilled vegetables,’ ’sauted broccoli with asparagus,’ ’vegetarian cassoulet,’ ’macaroni aglio olio,’ ’Brazilian rice,’ ’live phulka’ and ’dal tadka.’ The dessert included a platter cut-fruits and sugar-free plain yogurt.
The president was served special dishes cooked by a team of experts in Udupi. The general manager of Ocean Pearl, said that the president was served green mint tea on his arrival to the temple town. The lunch menu served to the president did not include Udupi cuisine. The president tried all the dishes served to him except dal and appreciated the spread. The official entourage of Pres of India was made up of at least 75 people. The president’s official food team was headed by Dr Vasudev Venkidesh.
The president boarded the IAF chopper to Mangaluru from the Adi Udupi helipad at 6.05 pm.
