Pre-Paryaya ritual ‘Akki Muhurtha’ performed at Kaniyoor Mutt

Udupi, Feb 15, 2013: “Akki Muhurtha,” a pre-Paryaya ritual was performed at the Kaniyoor Mutt  in Udupi on February 14, Thursday by Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Mutt, the next Paryaya seer.


The seer offered prayers and different fruits and flowers to Yoga Narasimha, the presiding deity of the Mutt, on the occasion. Akki Muhurtha is a tradition of accumulating grains for the Paryaya period of the Mutt. Kaniyoor seer will be ascending the Paryaya on January 18, 2014.


Another pre-Paryaya ritual “Baale Muhurtha” was performed in December last year, while the “Kattige Muhurtha” and “Bhattha Muhurtha,” will be performed in the coming days.


As part of Akki Muhurtha, the traditional Rice Mudi was placed in the golden chariot. The heads of the rest of the Mutts too arrived at Kaniyoor Mutt for the rituals.

The Kaniyoor seer also visited the  Chandramouleshwara and Anantheshwara Temples and Krishna Temple in a grand procession. Various special poojas were offered to the deities.


Speaking on the occasion, he said Anna Daana and Jnana Daana will receive top priority during his Paryaya period.
