Poojary flays BJP and Baba Ramdev and questions Justice Hegde

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 10, 2011: Accusing the BJP of attempting to associate with Baba Ramdev’s protest movement against corruption to cover up their own corrupt activities, B. Janardhan Poojary, the senior Congress leader told reporters that the Baba Ramdev episode in New Delhi has show the BJP and saffron organizations such as the Sangh Parivar and the RSS in their true colors.

He also flayed Baba Ramdev for wrecking the ideal of “satyagraha” by spending a lot on his hunger strike, adding that Anna Hazare’s satyagraha was true satyagraha. He also urged the central government to ban all protests at Raj Ghat in a bid to protect the reputation of the place.

Although he did not question the integrity of Anna Hazare, Poojary condemned the “terrorist speech” delivered by Arvind Kejriwal, a member of Team Anna, at Raj Ghat. He, however, expressed his discontentment over Anna Hazare’s silence regarding the corruption within the BJP-led state government during his recent visit to Karnataka.

He also lauded the Delhi Police for taking strict action against Baba Ramdev and his protest gathering and added that Baba only had the permission to conduct a yoga camp on Ramlila Maidan, not conduct a satyagraha. Moreover, owing to terrorist infiltration into India after the death of Osama Bin Laden, any large protest gathering of the type called by Baba Ramdev was in threat of being bombed. The Delhi Police, therefore, saved the lives of lakhs of people by cracking down on the gathering, he added.

Questioning the vast financial empire of Baba, he wanted to know how Ramdev could amass Rs. 1,177 crore and own 34 companies despite his humble beginnings as a yoga teacher. He also accused Baba of being envious of the attention captured by Anna Hazare and wishing to replicate it.

Turning his attention to Justice Sathosh Hegde, he demanded to know why the Lokayukta was hesitating to investigate the allegations of corruption against CM B. S. Yeddyurappa and his family although he had the powers to do so.

While refraining from questioning the integrity of the Lokayukta, Poojary wanted to know why the Lokayukta was not taking the required action against these corruption charges. Stating that all the Lokayukta has to do is to interrogate the concerned officers and pass the required orders, he questioned why the Lokayukta was taking such a long time to do this.

Recalling Justice Hegde’s excuses that he had no time to complete the pending cases in the Lokayukta, he wanted to know why the Lokayukta had accepted the offer to be part of the committee to draft the Lokpal Bill when he had no time to complete investigation on serious cases such as illegal mining so that the state government could take action against the accused.

Since India is a democratic country, Justice Hegde ought to explain his errors and unnecessary delays, he said.
