Poojary demands roll back of demonetization

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru Nov 15, 2016: Senior Congress Leader B Janardhana Poojary has demanded a roll back of the decision of demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes.

Addressing media at the Press Club on Tuesday November 15, he said that people are running helter-skelter and complaining about the inconvenience caused to them by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sudden announcement of demonetizing the high currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.

Poojary also said that, deprived people, street vendors, labourers, farmers and  students are facing difficulties to exchange Rs 500 and Rs 1000 and obtain 100 Rupees notes, and are forced to stand in long queue.  Referring to Narendra Modi turning  emotional during one of his  addresses, Poojary questioned if  Modi emotional for Adani group, Tatas or for the rich tycoons.

He further questioned whether   Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley were  not aware of  Section 276(A) and 276(B) of Income Tax Act,  which clearly states that black money holder shall be punishable for rigorous imprisonment of a term. "So far how many have been  sent to jail?," he asked.

"During the surgical strike I have praised  the PM for the bold step but today Modi will become the reason for BJP’s demise. The foreign tourists find itdifficult to exchange old notes and this foolish decision  creates wrong impression in the minds of  the visitors," said Poojary.

He further alleged that  Modi has not followed the right procedure of demonetizing currency and  new currencies are also not distributed in proper manner. The impact of demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes by Modi was seen in Mirzapur district where several torn currency notes of Rs 1000 denomination were found floating in the river, Poojary said."Have you visited  Varanasi to know about the  suffering of the people," he questioned Prime Minister Modi.

Kallige Tharanath Shetty, Purushottam Chitrapur and others were present.
