Poojary demands CBI probe into Halappa case

Mangalore Today News

Mangalore, May 3: B Janardhan Poojary, senior Congress leader and former union minister, said during a press conference held at the district Congress office on May 2, Monday that Hartal Halappa might have resigned, but the case has not yet been handed over to the CBI.

Halappa has denied the rape allegation leveled against him by Chandravathi of Shimoga, said Poojary. But people have seen released copies of a CD showing Chandravathi wearing a night gown and weeping. Poojary also accused the BJP government and Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa of trying to shelter the criminal. The CM has declared that Halappa is a “good person” and that this is a political gimmick to wreck his career. The CM also stressed that Halappa has nothing to do with the rape.

Stating that there are no sincere police officers in the state, who can investigate the matter, Poojary said that the Chandravathi rape case must be handed over to the CBI although the government has handed it over to the COD.

Poojary also said that Yeddyurappa must not only resign from his post, but should also be arrested under Section 201 and that Jagadish Shettar should be made the Chief Minister.

Shashidhar Hegde, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Kallige Tharnath Shetty, Mohammed Masood, Suresh Ballal, Ivan D’Souza, and MLA U T Khader were present.
