Police nab ganja smugglers and seize ganja

Mangalore, June 1: The Pandeshwar Police arrested two college students Varun Shetty and Mohammed Mansoor on Tuesday and confiscated 650gms of ganja from them.

The two were riding around near Samoon Palace Complex at 3:00 a.m., owing to which they were stopped by the police and questioned. The police grew more suspicious when they fumbled for answers and searched them. That was when they found 650gms of hemp worth Rs. 1 lakh.

The duo was hunting around for buyers.

In a separate incident at Kasargod, Mohammed Ashraf (32) of Safana Manzil in Bunder Kasba Bazar and Hassainar (38) of Pratap Nagara in Uppala were arrested by the Manjeshwar Police for being in illegal possession of 9,800gms of ganja.





Ashraf was first arrested and 1400gms of ganja was seized from him. When interrogated, he revealed that he was associated with Hussainar. The police, therefore, raided Hussainar’s house and seized 8,400gms of ganja.

Ashraf said that he had married a woman from Hosabettu in Manjeshwar and had to travel between Manjeshwar and Mangalore regularly. He said that he got to know Hassainar in Manjeshwar and that Hussainar had introduced him to this illegal trade.
