Mangalore, Oct 21, 2011 :The Police Martyrs’ Day was observed on the grounds of the District Armed Reserve Police Office today under the aegis of the Mangalore Police Commissionerate and the DK District Police. All the 636 police martyrs, including 10 from Karnataka, who had sacrificed their lives while protecting the public from Oct 21, 2010 to Oct 21, 201 were remembered on this day.

In his address, DC Dr. Channappa Gowda said that there nobody appreciates or understands the service of government officials. Speaking about lack of facilities for policemen, he said that basic facilities such as shelter, health, and others should be made available to the police.

Prof. T. C. Shivashankar Moorthy, the vice chancellor of Mangalore University, said that people are living in peace simply because of the efforts of the police.


The police flag was hoisted, following 3 rounds of gun fire.


Alok Mohan, the IGP of western range; MLC Ganesh Karnik; Labhu Ram, the superintendent of police; Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the CEO of ZP; Prabhakar, the additional superintendent of police; Ramadas Gowda, the KSRP commander; Nidarsh Hegde, the Home Guards commander; T. S. N. Moorthy, the vice president of NMPT; and Seemanth Kumar Singh, the Mangalore police commissioner, were present.
