Director H. Jayaprakash Bhandary said that these birds have been gifted to the park by Abdul Rahman Fayaz, a Bangalore-based exotic bird breeder, who is fond of birds. In return, he only wanted permission to visit the park whenever he comes to Mangalore to see how the birds are doing. The Macaws and the Toucans are in pairs, while there will be 4 – 6 birds of each of the other variety.

These birds are all from South and Central America, South America, North and Central Africa, India, Myanmar, South China, and others. They will be placed in enclosures, the conditions of which are as close to their natural habitat as possible.

The birds are trained, and once they have gotten used to the park, the park authorities plan to allow visitors to take their photographs holding these birds, he said.

He also said that the park plans to introduce ostriches too, and a spacious enclosure is being prepared for them.
