Pilgrim found dead in Dharmasthala

Mangaluru, Feb 21, 2015 :  According to  Belthangady police, a  60-year-old Mumbai pilgrim, who had come on a pilgrimage to Dharmasthala, was found dead near the Nethravati Bridge in Dharmasthala on  Feb 20. It is said Ramdas Poojary had come from Mumbai to Dharmasthala in November last year.

Based on information provided by persons who saw Poojary near the bridge, the police apprehended Mallesh (22), a worker from Huvinahadagali in Bellary district.

The police said Mallesh admitted of murdering Poojary with the help of three accomplices. The police have recovered the watch of Poojary from Mallesh. They are searching for the accomplices and aim to recover the gold ornaments taken from Poojary. While Poojary’s family members have been called to identify him, a DNA test would also be conducted.  The police said they are verifying statement of the accused that they had killed one more person.

In a separate case;  A group of people beat up a 58-year-old man after seeing him making undue advances towards a 20-year-old girl at the Vittla bus stand on Feb 19. The Vittal police said Moideen touched the girl inappropriately, and the group of persons who noticed the act at the bus stand. They rained blows on him and handed him over to the police. On the basis of a complaint by the girl, the Vittal police arrested Moideen for offences under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code.
