New Delhi, Dec 17, 2016 : The Centre increased the price of fuel on Friday: petrol by Rs 2.21 a litre and diesel by Rs 1.79. In Bengaluru, petrol will cost Rs 73.92 a litre and diesel Rs 60.65.
The price revision was to come into effect on Thursday, but was deferred possibly to save the demonetisation-battered government from any blushes in Parliament. The revised rates will be effective from Friday-Saturday midnight.
The hike is higher if taxes levied by the states are added. Till late on Friday, petrol in Delhi cost Rs 66.10 a litre and diesel Rs 54.57. Petrol now costs Rs 68.94.
On December 1, the price of petrol went up by 13 paise, while diesel came down by 12 paise.
Prior to that, on November 16, petrol became dearer by Rs 1.46 and diesel by Rs 1.53.
