Pejawar seer urged to practice what he preaches

Mangalore, Sep 27, 2011: Veerabhadrachannamalla Swamiji, the seer of Nidumamidi, remarked that Pejawar Mutt  Seer Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji just speaks about social development, but does not work for it. He was speaking at an interactive session titled Mutts and Politics organized by the Journalists’ Study Centre in Sahodaya Hall on September 27 Tuesday.

 

Stating that he welcomes Swami Vishwesha Teertha’s initiative to support Dalits, he said that this initiative will gain value only if it is effective. Criticizing Swami Vishwesha Theertha, he said that the swamiji has not done anything to change the way people’s minds work, adding that words and not action are more important. While Swamiji preaches of unity in Hindu society, he does not guide them on how they can unite when there is so much of discrimination among various castes. While Swamiji speaks of social development, he is not for inter caste marriage, he added.

He said that he will become Swamiji’s disciple only if he agrees to unite Dalits and Brahmins and provide education for Dalit students in his ashram.

Criticizing the system governing churches, basadis, mosques, and temples, he said that they all function with illegal money, acting like the Swiss banks of the nation. Stating that there is no honesty in religion, he said that religion is ruled by rich people and politicians. Recalling the Tirupathi Temple’s refusal to return the donations of corrupt ministers, he said that this reflects the honesty of religious institutions.

Regarding the special programme for widows announced by the Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwar Temple, he said that he welcomes the temple initiative, adding that there are plenty of opportunities for widow remarriage and urging people to work to improve the status of widows in society.
