Udupi, Dec 13, 2019:   Deputy Commissioner G. He was speaking at a district-level meeting on housing facilities for working women at the District Offices Complex here.

Mr. Jagadeesh said that all paying guest accommodations should be compulsorily registered with the Department of Women and Child Welfare by December 31, 2019, failing which the administration would initiate action on January 1, 2020 to close them down. After the administration issued a press release calling for registration some time ago, only eight accommodations/organisations registered themselves. The administration had information that many such accommodations were functioning illegally and providing their facilities to working women or women pursuing their studies, he said.

He directed the officers of the Women and Child Welfare Department to send the details of the such accommodations submitted to them to the nearest police stations for getting certificates. It was incumbent on those persons providing such accommodations to install CCTV cameras, take security steps for the safety of inmates and provide other necessary facilities to them, he said.

Mr. Jagadeesh directed the officers of Women and Child Welfare Department to repair the Working Women’s Hostel in Manipal.

Kiran Fednekar, Deputy Secretary, Shanthi Bai, public prosecutor, Veena Vivekanand, District Women and Child Welfare Officer, were present.
