Mangaluru, Dec 23, 2015: Close on the heels of the commencement of toll collection at the toll gate near NIT-K Suratkal, the KSRTC has increased fares much to the ire of frequent commuters who find the fare hike unreasonable.
What has been gathered is that the KSRTC has increased the fares for express buses by Rs Five while in case of Volvo, deluxe, semi-deluxe, sleeper and A/C coaches the fare is up by Rs six. When asked the reason given is the toll charges.
The toll plaza at Suratkal has started functioning just on December 19, Sunday and it charges Rs 230 per day for Volvo buses which means that the KSRTC will have to shell out Rs 2300 for its ten buses which operate on the route.
However, considering the number of Volvo buses as well as the number of trips they make it is all likely that the KSRTC would make huge profits owing to hike in fares.
At a time when passengers were expecting reduction in fares due to fall in diesel prices, the hike in fares on the pretext of toll charges has disappointed many.
The KSRTC had to decrease the prices as there was reduction in the diesel and petrol. The KSRTC did not respond but this time what is the need to rise due to toll payment. The passengers are right and they have to answer.
How can the KSRTC service levy the toll charges on the individual passengers. The toll is collected just for one for in trip in a Long distance . They cannot burden the passengers in name of toll.
