Mangalore, August 3, 2011: The areas in coastal Karnataka, which are dominated by the Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP), celebrated as soon as D. V. Sadananda Gowda, the MP of Udupi – Chikmagalur, was selected as the next chief minister of Karnataka.

BJP activists in Mangalore distributed sweets and burst crackers to celebrate the victory of Mr. Gowda, who is the second person in coastal Karnataka after M. Veerappa Moily of the Congress to become the chief minister of Karnataka.

Most of the BJP leaders in coastal Karnataka had supported Mr. Gowda when the BJP party at the state-level had split into two factions after the resignation of B. S. Yeddyurappa.
