Panel to look into treatment denial for pregnant woman

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, May 30, 2020:   A nine-member committee has been asked to submit a report to the government on whether the inhumane treatment meted by the association of an apartment in Shivbagh and the private hospital had resulted in humiliation and loss of foetus.

The committee, led by Mescom Managing Director Snehal R, will submit a report after verifying the facts, sources added. “My pregnant wife had arrived from Dubai on May 12. After her swab was tested negative, she had intended to return to her flat in Shivabagh for home quarantine. But the apartment association and a few residents prevented her from entering the apartment and forced her to opt for quarantine facilities in a hotel. When her swab was tested negative for the second time, the apartment again prevented her from entering the flat. Soon the pregnant woman developed health complications and shifted to a hospital. In the hospital too she was denied treatment,” Abdul Aziz Bastikar from Uppinangady alleged. At another hospital, the doctors were forced to abort the foetus.

The Mangaluru City Corporation had served a notice to the apartment association.
