Padmapriya case : SC refuses to stay proceedings against Atul Rao

Udupi, Aug 19,2017:   In a new development in the  case of suspicious death of  Padmapriya, the wife of former Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, the Supreme Court has declined to stay the investigations against  Atul Rao said to be one of the accused in the case.


Padmapriya case Padmapriya who went missing on June 11, 2008 was found hanging in an apartment in Delhi a few days later. The allegation then was  Padmapriya had escaped  with the help of Atul Rao and a former driver of the  ex-MLA.

It was in the year 2014 that a court in Bengaluru had directed holding of a CoD investigation into the role  of Atul in the case following a petition filed by Raghupathi Bhat.

Later, a petition was moved in the SC seeking stay on investigation of Atul, but the same has now been turned down by a three member bench of the Supreme Court.
