Mangaluru, Apr 07, 2015: Balakrishna Shibarla, journalist from Vijaya Karnataka daily was conferred the ‘Pa Go Award-2014’ for Best Rural Reporting at a function held at Press Club on April 7, Tuesday. The Award is given by the DK District Working Journalists’ Union every year in commemoration of journalist late Padyana Gopalakrishna Bhat.
Balakrishna won the award for his write-up ‘Naxal Police Madhye Nalugidavaru’, published in the July 31, 2014 issue of Vijaya Karnataka. The Award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,001, a memento and a citation. GA Naik, writer and senior journalist presented the award to Balakrishna.
Speaking after receiving the Award, Balakrishna said he was grateful to the Journalists’ Union for selecting him for the Award. He said he came up in the field of journalism with due guidance and support from his colleagues, despite not studying journalism.
Jagannath Shetty Bala, President of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union, Manohar Prasad, Mangaluru Bureau Chief of Udayavani also spoke on the occasion.
Srinivas Nayak, Chief Secretary of the DK Working Journalists Union, Savitri, wife of late Gopalakrishna Bhat and several others were present at the function.
