PWD Minister inspects Shiradi Ghat works; road to be opened in August 1st week

Puttur, July 26, 2015:  State PWD Minister HC Mahadevappa who inspected the first phase of Shiradi Ghat concretisation works on July 25, Saturday, later informed reporters that the Shiradi Ghat road would be opened for traffic in the first week of August.

The Minister also stated that the second phase of works would begin in September when the road would  once again be closed.

He said the pending works in first phase will be completed in another ten days  and added that presently the  works on roadsides like installation of sign boards, crash barriers and other minor works are underway. He said 11.77 km stretch of road has been concretised at a cost of Rs 69.90 crore in the first phase.

The second phase works are expected to be completed in five months, Mahadevappa informed and added that under it 33.38 km stretch of road would be upgraded at a cost of Rs 85.28 lakhs. Out of the total stretch 12.38 kms will be concretised and the rest and 21 kms tarred.

The Minister stated that   a sum of Rs 1500 crore has been sanctioned by the Centre for the Hassan-BC Road widening works which are underway.

On the proposed construction of tunnel way on Shiradi Ghat stretch, the Minister stated that a Detailed Project Report would be prepared   for the project between Kempuhole and Maranahalli  measuring 21.5 kms.

Abhayachandra Jain, Minister for Youth Services and Sports and other PWD officers were present.
