PUCL seeks CBI probe into murder of 2 under trials in District Prison

Mangaluru, Nov 5, 2015: The PUCL has demanded CBI investigation into the recent case wherein two under trials were killed in a clash in the District Prison in Mangaluru. The PUCL has termed the murder of the two under trials as a case of custodial death.

Dinesh Hegde Ulepady, Legal Advisor of PUCL said the jailer and warders who were on duty on the day the incident took place should be named as accused in the case.

He has also demanded the transfer of City Police Commissioner S Murugan for failure to check the rising criminal cases in the city.

Mohammad Kabir Ullal, President of PUCL said that the murders were communally motivated and cannot be ruled out as a case of gang rivalry. He at the same time welcomed the decision to post KISF personnel on security duty in the prison.

PUCL leader PB D’Sa demanded action against the erring jail staff and the police personnel in the case. He also urged the authorities to send a report regarding the case to the NHRC.
