The book has received wide acclaim worldwide. This is the third edition of the book first published in 2006. The book has received accolades from renowned persons including President Barack Obama, Former President of India-A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, Former Indian PM-I.K.Gujral, Corazon Aquino of the Philipines and many other world leaders and scholars.

The Author retired from Indian Foreign Service (IFS) after serving for 35 years in 1994. He served as a Ambassador in Egypt,Mexico,Liberia, Ghana; held  other key diplomatic postings at Tokyo,Rangoon, New York, Lima, Chicago, and London, too.  In 2007,  author P A Nazareth  became a recipient of the prestigious ’U THANT PEACE AWARD’  for his "life time of dedication and world service in promoting Gandhian ideals" - the previous recipients of this award are Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul-II, The Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and many other greats.

This distinguished figure is often referred to as ’Alan Nazareth’   spends his retirement following in the footsteps of the Mahatma - literarily. The prime component of the book is Gandhi’s leadership elevated vision of humanity. To quote from the book: "Non-violence is the law of our species as violence is the law of the brute. The spirit lies dormant in the brute and he knows no law but that of physical might. The dignity of man requires obedience to higher law - that of the spirit......It is the law of love that rules mankind. Had violence i.e:hate ruled us, we should have become extinct long ago. Mankind has to get out of violence only through non-violence. Hatred can only be overcome by love.

Another interesting quote," Leaders who inspire, and command universal respect, are those who espoused Right rather than Might, and truth, justice and non-violent conflict rather than hate, violence and war. Lincoln’s words "let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith let us to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it" are still as powerfully inspiring as they were a hundred and forty years ago when they were spoken. Napoleon’s words, uttered at his remote St.Helena prison are significant. "Glory is fleeting; obscurity is forever....There are only two powers in the world - the spirit and the sword. In the long run the sword will always be conquered by the spirit".
