Oscar Fernandes inaugurates Librarians’ Day at SDM College

Mangalore, Oct 20: The DK and Kodagu Library Association in Udupi and SDM College of Business Management in Mangalore celebrated Librarians’ Day, which is also referred to as Dr. S. R. Ranganathan’s Day, at the conference hall of SDM College on Oct 20, Wednesday.

Oscar Fernandes, the chairman of the parliamentary committee HRD, Government of India, inaugurated the event and said that librarians are people who know all the books in the library, but today, they are capable enough to access all the books in the world. Explaining his statement, he said that the IT revolution have connected the world’s best libraries and added that the parliamentary library is the richest library in the world. An institution’s library reflects its educational worth, he declared.


The college also organized a felicitation programme in honour of Dr. Oscar Fernandes. Refusing to accept it because only one chair was placed on the dais, he openly announced that he will not accept honours without his wife. Later, they were both honoured on the dais.


Prof. T. H. Eranna, the regional joint director of the department of collegiate education, was the guest of honor. Prof. A. K. Baradol, the chairman of the department of library and information science, delivered the keynote address.


Dr. Manjunath K., the president of Chief Librarian TAPMI, welcomed the guests. Rashmi Prabhu, a lecturer of SDM College, compered the programme. Dr. Devaraj K., the principal of SDM College of Business Management, presided over the programme.
