Oscar Fernandes felicitated for completing 30 years in Parliament

Udupi, July 2: Congress Working Committee (CWC) Member Oscar Fernandes, who was recently elected as the member of the Rajya Sabha, declared that the Congress will do anything in its power to strenghten the power of the Panchayath Raj in India. He was speaking to a group of newly elected Congress-supported GP members and party workers in Udupi. Mr. Fernandes was also felicitated for successfully completing 30 years in Parliament.

 

 

Recalling his past, Mr. Fernandes said that he began his political career by joining the Congress in 1959. He said that he could build a career in politics because of the people’s trust in his abilities. He first became a corporator in Udupi in 1972, before entering the Parliament in 1980.

Criticizing the state government, Mr. Janardhana Poojary, the former union minister, said that the Human Rights commission and the heads of the State Backward Commission have already declared the BJP-led state government as corrupt. The final nail in the coffin of the state government was the resignation of Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde, he said.
