Organizations protest against saffron elements in police department

Mangalore, June 1, 2012: Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike, DK Popular Front of India (PFI), Protestant Christian Welfare Association, Mangalore Central Committee, and many other associations organized a protest against the saffronization of the police department in front of the DC’s office on June 1, Friday.

Suresh Bhat Bakrabail of the Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike said in his protest address that many people are still unwilling to believe the simple fact that the police department is under the control of the Rashtriya Swayamseva Sangh (RSS). He added that police pages on social networking sites and police blogs prove this fact.

Further he said that the police department displayed RSS photos on its website for the past one year, which indicates that either senior police officers approve of this or hardly check their own website.

Speaking on the occasion, Ali Hasan said that it is wrong of the police department to hand over maintenance of its website private companies such as Zest as the police department has a lot of secret information. He said that the police ought to have trained some people in its department so that they could maintain it.

Stating that the police department is responsible for maintain law and order, he said that senior police officers usually know all about communal, anti constitutional, criminal, and terrorist parties. In spite of knowing about the anti-national activities of the RSS, the police department is supporting it, he added.

Listing out the wrongdoings of the RSS, he said that Nathuram Godse, Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin, was an active RSS member. Besides RSS and its sister concerns are responsible for several blasts including those at Malegaon, Ajmeer Darga, Sanjotha Express, and Makka Masjid. In spite of the fact that several Sangh Parivar members such as Sadhvi Prajna Singh, Purohit, and Swami Aseemananda have been arrested, the police department has published RSS photos, he accused.

He also accused the police department of protecting RSS members engaged in anti constitutional activities such as moral policing, ransom collection, and religious conversion and urged authorities concerned to punish such members, ban fundamentalist Hindu outfits, and suspend police officers who protect them and work for them.

Pattabhirama Somayaji, Mohammed Kakkinje, Vishnumurthi, C. N. Shet, Azeez Kudroli, and Sathish Pengal also took part in the protest.
