The protesters said that the bill is against the aspirations of the Constitution. “For the first time since Independence, citizenship is granted to individuals on the basis of religion. All attempts are being made to destroy the principles of secularism in the country,” they alleged.

Thinker G Rajashekar said, “The Citizenship Amendment Bill has kept Muslims out of its purview. The prime minister has totally neglected development. Through the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the government is playing with the emotions of the people.”

SIO state secretary Yasin Kodibengre said, “The bill is aimed at dividing the society based on religion and thus to secure its vote bank. The government is projecting the bill to protect the acts of atrocity on the religious minorities of Pakistan, Afaghanistan and Bangladesh.”

Amrith Shenoy, Karnataka Rashtra Samiti Party state vice president, said, “The
Citizenship Amendment Bill will disrupt harmony in the society. The bill will push the country towards social bankruptcy.”
