Only BJP corporators have SFC funds, alleges Lancelot Pinto

Mangalore, Aug 1: Lancelot Pinto, leader of the opposition at the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), told reporters at a press conference held at the office of the District Congress today that none of the SFC funds for infrastructure development has reached opposition corporators. 

He further stated that the MCC has distributed Rs. 20 lakh among all BJP corporators for the development of their wards, but no funds have been allocated to the Congress wards. Although the grants arrived in April, they have still not been distributed, he added.

 

 

Alleging that the MCC is focusing only on the development of concrete roads within the city, he said that the interior roads are being neglected owing to which people are finding it difficult to use them during the monsoons. 

Stating that the MCC’s continuous water supply project is worth Rs. 135 crore, he said that the opposition Congress feels that this expensive project is not necessary because people are receiving adequate water supply now. The mayor and the BJP corporators are meeting 3 – 4 times per month just to discuss this project, he added. Further explaining the opposition’s disapproval of this project, he said that the public will have at least Rs. 100 added in each water bill if this project is implemented. 

Speaking on the occasion, Shashidhar Hegde said that the MCC has spent Rs. 25 lakh for the infrastructure at Nellikai Road and K. S. Rao Road, but no proper drainage facility has been provided. 

Congress leaders Mamatha Shenoy, Appi, Ashraf, and others were also present.
