Aug 28, 2015: Thiruvonam - the heritage  festival of Kerala loved all over the Globe   - Thiruvonam is today August 28, Friday. Many hotels and restaurants are offering Onam Special Lunch and recipies. It may be noted that Mangaluru and Udupi have a large number Malayalies including students. Colleges and Schools in both the districts have taken special interest in Onam celebrations

OnamAlong with the athappookkalam (floral pattern), in organised events;  Temples in the state also witnessed a rush of devotees ahead of Thiruvonam.

 

 

 

Pookalam was a welcome for anyone walking into organisations where Onam is observed.  A mix of people from various cultural background, those from Kerala organised events at workplaces, while the others took part enthusiastically.
In a season of price rise and concerns on quality of vegetables arriving from other states, shopping trends seemed to remain brisk. The shopping rush for clothes and electronic goods, continued in apparel stores and malls. Business is expectedly high with special offers of all shapes and sizes.

Several firms and schools who have declared a holiday.  A long weekend ahead, most people headed to their hometowns.  Anticipating the rush in view of Thiru Onam, elaborate arrangements till September 1 were in place deploying additional transport.

Restaurants are ready with an array of dishes on their platter and the list of delicacies is endless, the restaurants are decked up with floral decorations.

Kerala Samajam organised several competitions for schoolchildren. For their members and the public, on the occasion of Onam, the Samajams organise Onam Sadya as well.   A very happy Thiruvonam to our readers too.
