Normal life in city paralysed as Trade Union strike begins

Mangalore, Feb 20, 2013: The  two-day trade union strike which began on February 20, Wednesday, has disrupted normal life in the city,  with both private and government buses remaining off the roads. People were seen waiting for buses at several places.

However, a few autorickshaws were found plying and making the most of the absence of buses.  Shops and business establishments in various places too downed their shutters in support of the bundh.

Though an official holiday was not declared, schools and colleges too are not functioning. However some institutions where examinations are scheduled to take place, are functioning.

In Udupi: The strike has paralysed normal life in the temple town of Udupi.Buses are off the roads as the bus employees union are backing the strike, though the operators association has said it does not support the strike. However, a few autorickshaws and taxis were plying on the road. Even KSRTC buses have suspended services.

In Kundapur: The trade union strike call has evoked a good response even in Kundapur with trade union members out on the streets and urging shop owners and motorists to support the bundh call. Buses remained off the roads even in the town.
