Mangalore Today News Network

DC Ponnuraj sep 18Mangalore, September 19: Bhaskar Salian, the president of the DK Private Bus Owners’ Association, demanded permits for the plying of new buses along highway routes during a meeting held with DC V. Ponnuraj to discuss transport-related issues.

In response, the DC admitted that, although these roads witness heavy traffic, the public need for extra buses cannot be ignored, especially in rural areas. Simultaneously, he said that there was no need for new buses along NH47.

Further explaining the situation, the DC said that the Nathoor – Talapady stretch will be heavily contested in the following days owing to the road-widening project, which will commence in a couple of months. The vehicles will be able to ply only on half of the road till the work is completed, he disclosed.

SP Dr. A. S. Rao, DCP Mutthuraya, Regional Transport Authority Officer Shiva Nayak, and office bearers of the Private Bus Owners’ Association were also present during the meeting.
