Mangaluru, April 22, 2020:   A delegation  of wholesalers and retailers  met  Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh and MCC Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde Shanady on April 21, Tuesday and  appealed to allow them to continue their business at the Central Market in the city as the APMC Yard at Baikampady where they have now shifted  lacked basic amenities.

Central Market Vendors Association President Mustafa Kunhi, General Secretary Janardhan Salian, CITU District General Secretary   Sunil Kumar Bajal and others were in the delegation.

It may be mentioned here that the merchants at Central Market  had reluctantly moved to the Baikampady APMC Yard following a directive from the City Corporation.  At the outset this move aimed at preventing large number of people from visiting the market place in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Corporation later told that the shifting of the merchants would also  facilitate the demolition of the old Central Market building to pave way for the  construction of a new market complex.
