Nitte University enters into MOU with the School of Medical Science, University of Ilinois, Chicago

US, Jan 14, 2020: University of Illinois, College of Medicine is globally reputed for high quality medical education and research with 24 departments involved in healthcare delivery as well as cutting edge research in health sciences. Dr. Bellur Prabhakar, Dean, Research of the College of Medicine, University of Ilinois, Chicago visited Nitte (Deemed to be University) on January 2, 2020 and a Memorandum of Understanding for collaboration in research and teaching was exchanged between the two Universities. The MOU was signed by Bernadette Rossmore, Coordinator, Business and Financial Services; Mr. Avijit Ghosh, Comptroller of the University of Illinois and Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University).

 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Prabhakar appreciated the investments made by Nitte University in creating state of the art research infrastructure and a highly stimulating research environment. He spoke about the ample opportunities that exist for academic collaboration between the two Universities and emphasized the need to develop research projects using novel and innovative approach that can attract funding from global institutions to address problems affecting human health in India and United States. Shri. N. Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte (DU) hoped that the MOU will be taken forward and there will be joint academic activities by the two Universities.

He urged the research fraternity of the University to take utmost advantage of such collaborations to find solutions for health problems afflicting humankind especially the rural and underprivileged societies world over. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary recalled his visit to the School of Medicine, Chicago and the excellent interaction with faculty working  in the three campuses of the University.

He implored upon the faculty of Nitte (DU) to take advantage of the MOU by developing joint projects and programmes. Dr. Shantharam Shetty, Pro Chancellor, Mr. Vishal Hegde,   Pro Chancellor,  Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Alka Kulkarni, Registrar, and Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director, R&D, Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, Senior Director-International Relations were present during the exchange event and further discussions on the way forward.
