New Delhi, Aug 24, 2013 : A delegation of the Mathru Bhoomi Samrakshana Samithi of Niddodi led by Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel met Union Ministers from Karnataka Oscar Fernandes and Veerappa Moily at New Delhi on August 22, Thursday and requested them to prevail upon the Government to drop the proposed ultra mega thermal power project at Niddodi.
Here it may be recalled that MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had recently been to Niddodi to take stock of the situation and heeding to the appeal made by the Samithi had taken a delegation to the Union Ministers.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum to the ministers stating that the proposed project would spell doom on farmers of the region and would also have adverse effect on surrounding villages. Copies of the memoranda have also been submitted to the Prime Minister, President and Chief Minister.
It is learnt, the Union Ministers have assured the committee that they would make all possible efforts on their part to ensure that the project was dropped.
The delegation included Alphonse D’Souza, President of the Samithi, Kiran Manjanabailu, its Convenor, Members Jagannath Shetty, Bhasker Devasya, Poovappa Gowda and Sudhaker Suvarna.
