Moodbidri, Nov 22, 2014: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar said here on November 21, Friday the State government has not bothered to create the 43 new taluks announced by him when he was Chief Minister.
Addressing the media of Mangaluru, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said the Congress-led State government had not released any funds or recruited the staff required to create new taluks. He was in Mangaluru to launch the membership drive of the party.
Brahmavar : In Udupi, Mr. Shettar said he was in favour of creation of Brahmavar and Byndoor taluks in Udupi district. He was addressing a public meeting organised by the BJP to demand the formation of Brahmavar taluk. Four committees set up by the government to look into the issue of creation of taluks, had suggested the creation of Brahmavar as taluk headquarters. A new taluk headquarters would benefit the people living in Brahmavar and its nearby villages.
He said the BJP would lay siege to the Suvarna Soudha at Belagavi on December 9 to protest against what he termed the failure of the government to solve the issues of sugarcane growers. He reiterated that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should drop the four Ministers facing charges from the Cabinet before the Belagavi session, otherwise the BJP would not allow the proceedings of the house to go on, he said.
