Mangaluru, Jan 02, 2020: It has become inevitable for the people of India to launch a second freedom struggle through non-violent means to fight against the Union Government which has implemented the ’unconstitutional’ Citizenship Amendment Act, said senior Congress leader B Ramanatha Rai.
He was speaking after inaugurating a mass dharna organised in front of the statue of Ambedkar outside the Town Hall on January 2, Thursday to protest against the police firing incident in Mangaluru and to demand a judicial enquiry into the same by a sitting High Court judge. The protest which will be held upto 4 pm has been organised by Joint Action Committee of Secular Parties of Dakshina Kannada district.
Referring to the Mangaluru incident, Rai said the government by enforcing prohibitory orders at a time when there was no tension anywhere had itself incited violence. He described the Mangaluru police firing incident that claimed two lives, as a pre-planned act and said the Chief Minister and Home Minister were directly responsible for it.
CPM leader Vasanth Achary in his address alleged that communal governments were at power at the state and Centre. He further alleged that the CAA and NRC are a ploy to implement the RSS agenda.
On the Mangaluru violence, he questioned as to where are the video clips that could ascertain the police version that 7,000 men had tried to attack the police.
DCC Chief Harish Kumar, MLC Ivan D’Souza, former MLAs JR Lobo, Abhayachandra Jain, physician Dr Srinivasa Kakkilaya, DYFI District President B K Imtiyaz, farmer leader Ravikiran Punacha, CPM leader K R Sriyan, Congress leaders Suresh Ballal, Kavitha Sanil, Shalet Pinto, Ibrahim Kodijal, Harinath, Shashidhar Hegde, Vinayraj and others are participating in the protest.
