Mangaluru: August 4, 2015: Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel called on union minister for Transport Nitin Gadkari at Transport Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday and urged him to declare State Highways as National Highways in the district under National Highway Act, 1956. The MP also urged Gadkari to upgrade highway connecting BC Road to Mulki via Polali-Kateel-Kinnigoli in DK as new National Highway. Length of this proposed NH is 48.10km.

Nalin also appealed to Gadkari to take steps to include the below mentioned works in the additional annual plan or non-plan 2015-16 of the ministry for the National Highways in the district. This includes Improvement to Riding Quality Programme (IRQP) to NH 13 for 2015-16 that entails providing 75mm thick bituminous macadam (asphalt) and 40mm thick asphalt from 664km to 671km in Sholapur-Mangaluru section at an estimated cost of Rs 8 crore.

Other work proposed is IRQP to NH 13 for 2015-16 that entails providing 75mm asphalt and 40mm asphalt from 725km to 743.90km in Sholapur-Mangaluru section at estimated cost of Rs 17 crore; periodical renewal (PR) to NH 243 for 2015-16 by providing 30mm asphalt from 31km to 41km in Mangaluru-Villupurum section at estimated cost of Rs 4 crore; and PR to NH 48 for 2015-16 providing 30mm asphalt from 286km to 309km in Bengaluru-Mangaluru section at estimated cost of Rs 9 crore.

Likewise, Nalin also demanded PR (annual repair) to NH 48 for 2015-16 by providing 30mm thick asphalt from 263km to 286km in Bengaluru-Mangalore section at an estimated cost of Rs 10.50 crore and PR to NH 13 for 2015-16 that entails providing 30mm thick asphalt from 705km to 725km in Sholapur-Mangaluru section at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore. Gadkari assured Nalin to consider the proposals favorably in the larger interests of commuting public.
