Udupi, Nov 01 2019: BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel on Thursday lauded the chief minister’s decision to erase lessons on Tipu Sultan from school textbooks.
He told reporters at Hejmadi that Tipu was not a role model as he ill-treated Hindus. “He was a fanatic and was not secular. The previous coalition government used Tipu Sultan’s name in order to reach out to minorities, which was a part of a poll gimmick,” Kateel said.
He added that Islam does not permit birthday celebrations, Christians too oppose the idea of celebrating Tipu Jayanti.
Kateel expressed confidence that the BJP will win all the 15 seats during the by-elections as plans to reach out the voters had been planned.
Responding to the slow phase of work on the national highway at Thokkuttu, Pumpwell, Padubidri and Kundapur, the president declared that they had set December as the deadline for Navyug Constructions to complete the work.
The toll gate in Surathkal needs to be dismantled and a letter was written to NHAI, Kateel added.
