Mangalore, Aug 2: Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, the widely acclaimed Kannada film director, will be the president of the 8th All India Kannada Cultural Convention 2011, which is scheduled to be held on Aug 6 – 7 in Mumbai. 


The event will be jointly organized by the Mumbai Kannada Sangha, Hridayavahini, the Kannada newspaper, the Government of Karnataka, Department of Kannada and Culture, and the Karnataka Border Area Development Authority at V. K. Gokak Vedike in Santa Cruz, East Mumbai.

K. H. Muniyappa, the union minister of state for railways, will inaugurate the event on Aug 6, Saturday at 5:00 p.m. 


The convention will comprise sessions such as poets’ meets and others; besides, Noble Man 2011 and Suvarna Mayura awards will also be conferred. 


A large number of Kannada activists, thinkers, writers, and leaders are expected to participate in this event. 


About Nagathihalli Chandrashekar 


Affectionately known as Chandru, Nagathihalli Chandrashekar has directed 15 movies and 10 tele serials. He has also written a number of short stories, novels, and columns in the Hai Bangalore, the Kannada weekly.


Some of his literary products are Hadugalu, Nanna Preethiya Huduganige, Malenadina Hudugi, Bayaluseemeya Huduga, Baa Nalle Madhuchandrake, Chukki Chandramara Naadinalli, Sannidhi, Ayana, Akaala, and Prema Katha Samputa, to mention a few. 


He started his film career by writing dialogues for Kadina Benki, the Kannada movie, after which he directed a number of award-winning movies. Mr. Nagathihalli is the first Kannada filmmaker to promote his movie Maathaad Maathaadu Mallige at the Cannes Film Festival of 2007. 


His latest film Nooru Janmaku is a love set in the backdrop of economic recession. Santhosh has been introduced as the hero for the first time and Aadarsh Balakrishna, who is famous for Iqbal, has been introduced into Kannada filmdom for the first time. Around 40 percent of this movie has been made in Macau and Hong Kong. The cameraman is Santhosh Rai Pathaje, and the entire movie has been processed under Digital Intermediate.


Bahrain Kannadigas will host World Kannada Cultural Convention 2011 

 

Bahrain will host the 2-day 8th World Kannada Cultural Convention 2011, which will be jointly organized by Kannada Sangha Bahrain and Hridayavahini monthly. The objectives of this event are to create a common platform for the kids of NRI Kannadigas and introduce them to their rich language, culture and tradition as well as to enable local Kannada artists to interact with those settled in Bahrain.


Events such as poets’ meets, humor meets, media meets, NRI Kannadigas meets, and many other cultural events such as dance dramas, music, Yakshagana, bharatanatyam, and others will form part of the event. Kannada Sangha President Raj Kumar said that the highlight of the grand finale of the event will be a performance by Sandalwood actors such as Puneeth Rajkumar.

A number of senior politicians from the state, including S. M. Krishna, the union minister for external affairs, will attend the inaugural function on September 29.


An exhibition focusing on housing, health, education, and other significant issues will form the highlight of the event. The organizers will also honor 14 prominent personalities including 7 NRI Kannadigas.
