Mangalore, Aug 31, 2011: The Muslim community celebrated Eid ul Fitr on Wednesday. Hundreds and thousands of devotees, wearing traditional clothes, visited the mosques in spite of the stormy weather to offer the festive Namaz.

At the Eidgah Masjid on Light House Hill Road, Mangalore Qazi Twaka Ahmed Musliyar led the prayers and delivered the sermon. The Qazi urged Muslims to follow the law of God in their lives. He said that Muslims should live a virtuous life throughout the year, not just during the holy month of Ramzan. He also urged the devotees to remember those lesser privileged people during the festive season.

People greeted one another while a number of volunteers helped the police to manage traffic and maintain discipline.

Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh visited the masjid and exchanged greetings with the members of the Muslim community.

Eid prayers were held at masjids throughout the city such as Masjidunnoor, Bolar Masjid, Ibrahim Khaleel Masjid, Kankanady Masjid, and Taqwa Masjid in Pumpwell.
