Mangalore, June 11: The Muslim Educational Institutions Federation DK and Udupi in collaboration with the Minorities Guidance Forum organized a special programme to felicitate SSLC and PUC student achievers on June 11 Saturday.

Schools that reported 100 percent results in SSLC and PUC as well as top scoring PUC and SSLC minority students were honored on the occasion.

Y. Abdulla Kunhi, the chancellor of Yenepoya University, inaugurated the event and said that the Muslims in Kerala are quite advanced in the field of education, adding that he was glad to see that the Muslims of the twin districts are also following in their footsteps.

He also expressed his delight that a number of girls are getting education and topping in almost every district. While urging Muslim parents to educate their daughters, he said that they must also be taught religious beliefs.

He also informed the audience that Yenepoya Dental College has reserved 5 free dental seats for poor merit students and that one of these seats will be given to students from orphanages.

MLA U. T. Khader, the chairman of the Karnataka State Minority Development Corporation, and Dr. Mohan Alva, the president of the Alva’s Education Foundation, also spoke on the occasion.

B. A. Mohideen, the former minister of higher education, presided over the event and said that honoring students for their hard work is a great form of social service. The students who have been thus honored must remember to help other poor students once they have reached their goal, he said.

Y. Mohammed Beary, the president of MEIF, delivered the welcome address.

M. B. Abdul Rahman, the president of the Beary Sahitya Academy; B. M. Mumtaz Ali, the president of the Al Badriya Educational Association; Umar Teekay of the Teekays Foundation Bangalore; PMA Razak of Plama Developers Mangalore; and others were the chief guests of the event.

Resource persons Rajendra Bhat, the national trainer of Jaycee India, and Dr. Audri Pinto, the HOD of the department of psychology of Roshni Nilaya Mangalore, spoke on educational empowerment for students and effective parenting.
