The public paid its final respects to Fr. Pereira, whose mortal remains were placed at St. Vincent Ferrer Church of Valencia. The Holy Mass commenced at 4:00 p.m. with Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore; Fr. Robert Miranda, the bishop of Gulbarga; and J. S. Sadhananda, the bishop of CSI, as the main celebrants. A number of priests from all over Mangalore Diocese as well as friends and family members of Fr. Pereira were present.

The bishop said that Fr. Pereira had inspired a large number of people with his gentle nature and commitment. He recalled the days during which St. Joseph Engineering College was established when Fr. Pereira played an important role.

The homily was delivered by Fr. Victor Machado, the parish priest of Bejai.

The bishop blessed the body of Fr. Pereira after mass, following which the homage was offered by Fr. Peter Noronha, who recalled memories of days spent with Fr. Pereira when they were altar boys together and students at Jeppu School and St. Aloysius College.

Bishop Sadananda spoke about Fr. Pereira’s achievements and thanked God for giving a gift like Fr. Pereira to the members of the Catholic community. Fr. Bonaventure thanked Edwin and Michael Pais for helping Fr. Pereira in difficult days.

The mortal remains of Fr. Pereira was later buried, following which the bishop offered prayers and blessed the grave.
