Mangaluru, May 27, 2018: The differently-abled people among us need more love,  affection and encouragement rather than sympathy. Assist them in leading a self-reliant life, said Dr Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s educational institutions.

He was speaking as a chief guest at the 26th annual convention of the DK and Udupi District Differently-abled Persons Association held at Town Hall on May 27, Sunday.

Continuing, Dr Alva stressed the need to bring the differently-abled persons to the mainstream of the society. The aid provided by the government for the welfare of  the differently abled is negligible. The government needs to be pressurised to provide more grants, he added.

The function was earlier inaugurated by K C Naik, well-known builder and Managing Trustee of Sri Gopalakrishna Temple, Kulshekhar. Dr M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte Deemed to be University presided over the function. Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP,  Vinod Shenoy, Managing Trustee of Seva Bharathi, Dr Muralidhar Naik, President of the Association and others were present.

Scholarships and medical aid were distributed to differently abled children on the occasion.
