Mangaluru, June 20, 2015: A press release from Southern Railway staes that in order to clear the rush of passengers on the section, trains operating between Karwar and Bengaluru via Mangaluru and between Kannur and Bengaluru via Mangaluru will have an added sleeper coach from this October.
It said that a sleeper class coach would be permanently augmented with Bengaluru – Kannur Express(via Mangaluru) from October 1. Train no. 16518 Kannur - Bengaluru Express (via Mangaluru) would have a permanent additional coach from October 2.
Bengaluru – Karwar Express (via Mangaluru) would have it from October 1, 2015 while Karwar - Bengaluru Express (via Mangaluru) would have the coach from October 2. The release said that a three-tier AC coach each would be permanently augmented with Mangaluru – Thiruvananthapuram Maveli Express and Thiruvananthapuram - Mangaluru Maveli Express with immediate effect.
Mangaluru – Chennai Mail and Chennai Mangaluru Mail each would also have a three-tier AC coach permanently with immediate effect. A three-tier AC coach would be permanently augmented with Mangaluru – Chennai West Coast Express and Chennai - Mangaluru West Coast Express with immediate effect.
A first AC cum two-tier AC coach would be permanently augmented with Lokmanya Tilak – Kochuveli Bi-weekly Express, from June 20. Kochuveli - Lokmanya Tilak Bi-weekly Express would have a First AC cum 2-tier AC coach from June 22. However, people say there are some differences in the announcement and some matters are unclear and need to be set right.
