Mangaluru, 18 April 2015: In a shocking incident, an elderly man was assaulted by a group of ten unidentified youths near Ullal beach on Thursday 2015 April 16 evening and Ullal police registered a case.

Moral policing...This is not stray incident of misbehaving with the tourists who throng the beaches coming from faraway places. On 17 March also police had registered a similar case of moral policing a young lady filed complaint.

On Thursday incident the Ullal police said that the group allegedly pulled out the man, a retired bank employee, and the woman, who runs a creche, out of the car and pounced on the face of old man. The police rushed to the spot and got them admitted to a nearby hospital.

A group of men assaulted a couple from different religions at Mogaveera Patna on Ullal beach on when they came to the beach at about 5 p.m. on a two-wheeler.

When the police came to know about the assault, they rushed to the spot and brought the couple to the station.

In this case also based on the complaint by the woman, the police have registered a case of “assault by unidentified persons”.

It it seems the police have not taken serious note on the issue of moral policing and try to apprehend the culprits as they are all from same locality. A routine beat police can identify the culprits.

Most of the moral policing goes unreported and in such incidents victims are treated as culprits both by police and actual culprits, sources say.
Moral policing incidents in beach were also reported from Suratkal, Tannirubhavi and Panambur beachs.
