Mangaluru, Sep 30, 2019: State Tourism Minister C T Ravi has said he has instructed the authorities to submit a report at the district level on the issue of celebrating various Jayanthis after eliciting the views of thinkers, writers and elected representatives. The Minister stressed the need for a change in the pattern of celebration.
The Minister who spoke to reporters here after participating in a district level review meet at the DC office on September 30, Monday, said a meeting would be held at state level to deliberate on the reports submitted from various districts following which the cabinet would take a suitable decision.
Pointing out that the issue was sensitive, he said he has no intention of politicising it, but has come to know that some celebrations were restricted merely to some communities.
The Minister while pointing out that Yatri Nivas has been sanctioned in 30 places in the district, added that some places do not seem to require Yatri Nivas. Moreover as they also involve maintenance cost, there is a need for social audit to prevent fund misuse, he added.
He even pointed out that construction of some yatri nivas have been suspended half way through despite release of funds.
Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh, Additional DC Roopa, MLAs D Vedavyas Kamath, Rajesh Naik and other officials were present.
