Mangaluru, Jan 22, 2020: A mega convention of Catholics- Catholic Maha Samavesha 2020 will be held at Sacred Heart Church premises, Madanthyar on February 2, Sunday. Over 25,000 delegates from various parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will be participating in the convention, informed Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh Chief Rolphy D’Costa.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the objective of the convention was to bring all Catholics under one roof and discuss various pressing issues confronting the Christian community. The Conference will also demand setting up of an independent Christian Development Corporation and to provide Rs 500 crore funds for the development of the community. The government would also be requested to declare September 8 a holiday on account of Nativity Feast.
Mangaluru Diocese Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha will inaugurate the convention, while Bishop of Belthangady Syro Malabar Diocese Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhi will give the key note address. The event will be blessed by Puttur Syro Malankara Diocese Bishop Dr Geevarghese Mar Divannasios.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner P S Harsha, NRI entrepreneur Ronald Colaco, KPSC Member Ronald Fernandes and Lydia Lobo will be the resource persons.
The event will be held under the joint aegis of Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh, Indian Catholic Youth Movement, Diocesan Christian Councils of Catholic Women (DCCW), Diocese of Mangaluru, Syro Malabar Diocese, Belthangady and Syro Malankara Diocese, Puttur.
