Mangalore, Feb 25: Addressing reporters at a press meet held in her office at Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), Mayor Rajani Dugganna said that Rs. 50.54 crore of the Rs. 100 crore sanctioned by the chief minister for the development of Mangalore have been spent for the concretization of 16 roads of which 13 roads have already been completed and 3 are still being constructed.

Revealing further details, she said that Rs. 3.92 crore has been reserved for the development of parks, bus stands, and asphalting of certain roads. Twenty-three such projects have been completed and 4 more are still in progress, she said and added that Rs. 3.67 crore has already been spent on this project.


Rs. 8.23 crore was used to acquire land for the construction of a new bus stand in Pumpwell, she said.


The mayor also said that Rs. 100 crore, which has been released for the second phase of the development project, will be used as early as possible and a plan has already been prepared.


She said that CFLC will be used in place of sodium street lights to save energy. Stating that unused borewells will be permanently cancelled, she said that the MCC has called tenders for the waste disposal work.


She also presented a list of developments that had taken place in the form of bio gas plants, property tax, cleanliness drives, and others.


Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar said that the MCC had made provisions for scrap shopkeepers in Bunder, but that they are not ready to vacate their roadside shops.


Standing committee members Roopa D. Bangera, Shantha R., Sudhir Shetty, and Corporator Ashwini were also present.
