Mangalore, Aug 16: KMC Hospital arranged a felicitation programme to honour the Management disaster team, who served the victims of the Mangalore plane crash of May 22 and their families at the TMA Pai Convention Hall on Aug 16, Monday. 

 

Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said on the occasion that May 22 was a tough day for the police department, fire fighting services, doctors, as well as the local people. He appreciated the control room for immediately flashing news of the crash to various departments.

In spite of the fact that Mangalore is full of doctors and hospitals, the lives of many could not be saved, he said adding that the local people must be appreciated for the hard work they did to help the various departments to retrieve 158 bodies from the site of the crash. He lauded the local people for following the instructions of the police and for maintaining strict discipline on the day of the crash. 


Speaking about the role played by the local people on the day of the tragedy, the police commissioner said the volunteers were provided water bottles, thick gloves, and white sheets to cover the bodies a couple of hours after the tragedy. Stating that a lot of money has been spent on the required equipment, he said that the central government had arranged to get the DNA tests of several bodies in just two days. 


Certificates were distributed to the doctors and staff members of KMC Hospital, Yenepoya Hospital, KS Hegde Hospital, Wenlock Hospital, and Fr. Muller Hospital in recognition of their service. 


District Surgeon of Wenlock Hospital Dr. Saroja, Pro Chancellor of Manipal University H. S. Ballal, Assistant Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalakatti, Dr. Suresh Shetty, G. Rajgopal, M. V. Prabhu, and many others were present. Manjunath was the master of ceremonies.
