Maruthi Omni completely destroyed in fire

Mangalore, May 8, 2012: A Maruthi Omni caught fire because of short circuit near the Mescom office at Shivabhag on May 8 Tuesday. 

The Omni, a second hand vehicle belonging to Ivan D’Souza of Marnamikatte, was being taken on a test drive from Mandovi showroom by Krishna. 

 

 

 

Although the fire fighting personnel were called immediately, they were late in arriving. Meanwhile, the local people did everything in their power to douse the flames. 

Some people brought a fire extinguisher from the petrol bunk nearby only to discover that it was out of order when they tried using it. They then found another fire extinguisher, which actually worked. Unfortunately, the car could not be saved. 

When the fire fighting personnel arrived after several phone calls, angry people attacked them. In the physical fights and heated arguments followed, a reporter’s camera was damaged. 

Finally, it was the Kadri police team, under the leadership of Venkatesh Prasanna, who brought the situation under control. 

According to Prasanna, the fire fighting vehicle could not reach in time because it got stuck in the traffic.
